About KIW International

KIW International (KIW) has become an investment company and is a member of the Jamaican Teas Limited (JTL) Group of Companies.

At the end of the financial year 2020, KIW owned 17.95 percent equity in QWI Investments Limited (QWI), a company listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).

KIW disposed of the property that housed the previous operations of the Company up to 2017.

Most of the proceeds from the sale of the property were invested in stocks listed on the JSE. In 2019, the portfolio was exchanged for equity in our associated company, QWI, now jointly controlled in conjunction with Jamaican Teas Limited, the major shareholder in KIW International.

In 2019, KIW jointly launched QWI with Jamaican Teas Limited and proudly welcomed 4,700 new shareholders to QWI, subsequent to a successful Initial Public Offering

History

Formerly, Kingston Industrial Works, incorporated in August, 1955 to acquire the business operated by Henriques Brothers Limited, KIW is one of the foundation members of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).

The Company was a major manufacturing and commercial enterprise but over the years, the vagaries of the economy and other factors resulted in the Company’s fortunes fluctuating, and eventually the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) taking ownership of 42.5 percent.

In 2016, the GOJ sold its interest to Jamaican Teas Limited (JTL), which took control of the management. At the time of the GOJ’s divestment, KIW had a pool of investments in real estate and on the local stock market. A decision was made to dispose of the real estate and move into liquid investments.

As a result the Company was able to play a considerable role in a new subsidiary, QWI Investments, formed jointly with Jamaican Teas in 2019.
